An Act establishing an education loan repayment program for social workers in areas of need
This bill will create a student loan repayment pilot program administered by the Board of Higher Education for licensed certified social workers working in programmatic areas of high need, including the elderly and vulnerable children. Eligible social workers shall be employed in the Commonwealth, have an income not exceeding 500% of the federal poverty level, and will have entered the field on or after July 1, 2011, amongst other criteria. The purpose of the program is to encourage social workers to work in underserved areas in accordance with guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education in consultation with the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. The program will be subject to appropriation.
