During the 2013-2014 session, Jamie filed the following legislation on behalf of worker’s rights:
An Act establishing uniform wage compliance and record keeping
This bill will address the current inconsistency within Massachusetts law with respect to the statutes of limitations for wage and hour laws. This bill will change the statute of limitations governing minimum wage and overtime violations from the current 2 years to 3 years, to match the 3 year statute of limitations governing nonpayment of wages. There are no significant budgetary costs associated with this bill. This bill will simplify state law by bringing it into harmony with the federal standards and make it easier to protect the rights of workers who are wrongly denied wages by their employers.
An Act clarifying the meal break law to allow for private enforcement
Under current state law, workers who have been unjustly denied their meal breaks cannot sue to get damages for those violations of their rights. This bill will allow them to do so.
