SENATOR ELDRIDGE ANNOUNCES MAJOR COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS IN NEW LEGISLATIVE SESSION

02/11/2015 by Team Eldridge Leave a Comment

Eldridge will chair Financial Services, and serve as Vice-chair of Global Warming and State Administration committees

BOSTON— State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) was elected as the Senate chair of the Joint Committee on Financial Services, and Vice-chair of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, and Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change by his colleagues, as part of his new committee assignments announced as the Massachusetts Legislature began its 2015-2016 legislative session.

“As the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Financial Services, I look forward to leading a committee that oversees policies that have a significant impact on the state’s economy, the wealth of the people of Massachusetts, and inequality in our society,” said Senator Jamie Eldridge. “I look forward to meeting with all of the stakeholders that have an interest in the legislation before the Joint Committee on Financial Services, and hope to broaden the mission of the committee to better understand the impact that financial laws have on banks, small business owners, communities, and working families seeking to improve their standard of living.”

The Joint Committee on Financial Services deliberates all matters concerning banks, banking institutions, credit unions, insurance companies, insurance, including motor vehicle insurance, small loans, and similar other matters.

Eldridge’s election as Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Oversight will allow him to increase his focus on transparency in government, including public records laws and increasing access to government information, as well as reviewing any new regulations proposed by the Baker-Polito administration.

Senator Eldridge was also re-elected as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change, an issue he has prioritized since first joining the Massachusetts Legislature. He will also serve as a member of the Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse, the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture and the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development.
