Funding would provide for additional van service to the Senior Van Program in Maynard and Acton
BOSTON—Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) fought to pass $50,000 in the budget for fiscal year 2017 to allow for increased van service in the Senior Van Program that serves the areas of Maynard and Acton.
“I am pleased that I was able to secure this funding to improve transportation for our senior citizens, who often rely on the Senior Van Program to get from place to place,” said Senator Eldridge. “Providing additional van services will ensure that our seniors have the ability to maintain their independence.”
The Senior Van Program is run through the Council on Aging and currently provides transportation for approximately 4,000 individual appointments per year.
The Senate and House budget now goes to Conference Committee to resolve the differences between both versions.
