Funding would provide for public safety improvements to Cox Street Bridge
BOSTON—Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) fought to pass $25,000 in the budget for fiscal year 2017 to allow for public safety improvements to Cox Street Bridge over the Assabet River.
“I am pleased that I was able to secure this vital funding to improve public safety of the Cox Street Bridge,” said Senator Eldridge. “Installing a guard rail will alleviate safety concerns and better protect pedestrians in the area.”
A recent evaluation of the structural capacity of the bridge revealed a safety concern and recommended that a physical barrier needed to be constructed to prevent vehicles from swerving off the road and onto the sidewalk and coming into contact with pedestrians.
The Senate and House budget now goes to Conference Committee to resolve the differences between both versions.
