Senator Jamie Eldridge appointed to key committees to work on consumer protection, climate change, health care reform, public transportation accessibility, small business growth, substance abuse treatment options, and smart growth
BOSTON – Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) has been appointed the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Financial Services, the Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change, the Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business, as well as to the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, the Joint Committee on Marijuana Policy, the Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Recovery, and the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture.
“I want to thank Senate President Rosenberg for these important committee assignments, and I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to make a difference in the lives of my constituents and all people across Massachusetts,” said Sen. Jamie Eldridge. “It’s more important than ever that Massachusetts lead the nation on progressive policy, and I’m excited to continue fighting for a progressive agenda that creates more affordable housing, protects the environment, provides quality health care for all, and increases access to reliable public transportation.”
Sen. Eldridge was re-appointed to serve as the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Financial Services, in which he has focused his energies on consumer protection, preventing foreclosures, and taking on Big Banks. In addition, he is committed to expanding health insurance coverage for all Massachusetts residents, ensuring access to reproductive healthcare services, and strengthening the retirement security for working families.
Sen. Eldridge has also been re-appointed as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change, where he will continue to work to increase the state’s renewable energy portfolio, and improve access to reliable public transportation.
As the Senate Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business, Sen. Eldridge plans to work on zoning reform that will boost the state’s affordable housing stock, and supporting small business growth.
Sen. Eldridge will also serve on the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, and is committed to fighting for investments in affordable housing, health care, public education, and transportation. Additionally, the Senator will continue to support increased environmental protection funding, homelessness prevention, and increased investments in human services that help people with disabilities, elder adults, and veterans.
Sen. Eldridge was also appointed to the Joint Committee on Marijuana Policy. As a long-time supporter of legalizing recreational marijuana for adults, Sen. Eldridge is opposed to any weakening of the referendum that passed on November 8th, 2016.
As a member of the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, Sen. Eldridge will advocate for programs that will support family farms and local agriculture, and for increased funding to protect our water and air quality.
As a member of the Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Recovery, Sen. Eldridge is committed to ensuring that people who struggle with mental illness or addiction have access to safe, early, and effective treatment that is covered by health insurance plans.
Senator Eldridge will also continue to serve as the Senate Chair of the Senate Progressive Caucus, MBTA Caucus, Harm Reduction and Drug Law Reform Caucus, and the Green Economy Caucus.
