Today, the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture (ENRA) heard H.2777, An Act to enable the Commonwealth’s administration of the Massachusetts Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, filed by Governor
This bill would lower the standard for enforcing the Clean Water Act by handing over environmental oversight from the EPA to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), a deeply underfunded state agency that has been cut even further by Governor Baker. I am strongly opposed to H.2777, and today provided a copy of my letter to every member of the ENRA Committee, where I outlined my opposition to the bill in greater detail. I am proud to serve as a member of ENRA, and will oppose any effort by the Baker administration to weaken our state’s environmental and clean water laws. Please see my letter below.
