Uplifting Voices: Senator Jamie Eldridge & Dr. Thamires Nunes

Welcome to Uplifting Voices, a series aiming to provide a platform and elevate voices in our community! Our guest today is Dr. Thamires Nunes. Thamires is a Brazilian-American who after a long journey has recently graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to the US at the age of 6. It took her family over 15 years to obtain permanent residency, meaning she attended most of her undergraduate career as an undocumented student. Thamires will start her career as an emergency veterinarian at the Veterinary Emergency Group. She was inspired to go into veterinary medicine due to her love of helping people and a love of pets, especially cats! She will speak on her journey to becoming the first doctor in her family, the challenges she faced navigating the higher education system while undocumented, and the importance of representative role models for kids.
