Senator Eldridge and Representative Sena Announce $232,000 Grant Awarded to the American Foundation of Training Research and Education using Advanced Technologies (AFTREAT)
Award will fund the development of entry-level training programs for biomanufacturing and medtech manufacturing roles
BOXBOROUGH – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) and State Representative Danillo Sena (D-Acton) are excited to announce that the American Foundation of Training Research and Education using Advanced Technologies (AFTREAT) has recently been awarded $232,000 in grant funding to support the training of entry-level biomanufacturing and medtech roles.
This funding is supported by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) Pathmaker program. Operating with the goal of uplifting students for high-demand career opportunities in the life sciences, the MLSC Pathmaker Grant will support AFTREAT in developing stronger transition opportunities for entry-level workers.
Training stipends from the grant can be used by AFTREAT to support unique services that seek to combat barrier reduction such as transportation reimbursements and daycare subsidies. Together, these programs reduce the barriers of entry for new entry-level professionals to support the growth of AFTREAT’s workforce and programs.
“I am excited to see the new opportunities this award creates for new workers,” said Senator Eldridge. “It’s important that organizations such as AFTREAT have the necessary resources to support entry-level professionals, especially in the quickly growing biomanufacturing and medtech spaces. This award will be essential to helping communities like Boxborough continue to find innovative ways to support career and industry growth.”
“Investing in programs like AFTREAT ensures that our workforce is prepared for the constantly shifting life sciences landscape,” said Representative Sena. “By removing barriers for entry-level positions in biomanufacturing and medtech, this grant creates a more inclusive economy in our communities. By supporting targeted training right here in Boxborough, we are expanding local access to high-paying careers and strengthening the community's involvement in in-demand positions.”
