Marlborough, MA – Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) announced his nomination of Marlborough’s Mike D. Joseph, inspiring Black leader from the MetroWest region, for the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus Award, part of the 2022 Black Excellence on the Hill event.

The 2022 Black Excellence on the Hill event is an annual event hosted by the Massachusetts Black & Latino Legislative Caucus (MBLLC) to commemorate Black community leaders and trailblazers that are moving the needle forward in cities and towns across Massachusetts. While usually held in the Great Hall of Flags, the virtual landscape did not diminish the celebration of an expansive range of nominees who mirror the expansiveness of Blackness.

“I am honored to nominate community leader Mike D. Joseph for the 2022 Black Excellence on the Hill event. Mike is a leading social rights activist in the MetroWest region, working tirelessly to bring diversity, equity, and inclusion to Marlborough and beyond.” said Senator Eldridge. “I interviewed Mike last year in my Uplifting Voices series and was inspired by his commitment to giving back and educating his community. Mike founded One Marlborough, a community organization that addresses racial and social justice issues. One Marlborough continues to impress and remains an integral part of our community.”

“Thank you, it’s an honor to receive this nomination,” said Mike D. Joseph. “If I learned anything from last year, it’s that you can’t do it all on your own. After looking back at everything we’ve accomplished within the community, I couldn’t be more proud of the amazing people that make up this organization (One Marlborough) and their dedication to fighting the good fight. We understand that what we are fighting for isn’t something that can be done overnight, it’s a marathon. And I couldn’t have chosen a better group to run with.”

Created in 1973, the MBLLC remains a voice for Massachusetts' communities of color in the Legislature and seeks to empower constituents to gain a deeper sense of political awareness on issues concerning them and their greater communities. The MBLLC remains dedicated to serving communities of color throughout the Commonwealth through legislative, budgetary, and community endeavors.
