Local Financial Assistance for Rent or Mortgage Payments

Financial assistance for rental or mortgage payments may be available through the Rental Assistance for Families in Transition (RAFT) or Emergency Rental and Mortgage Assistance (ERMA) programs. This is determined by the city or town that you live in. 

Documentation required when applying:

  • Identification documents for the head of household. 

  • Documentation of income for all household members 18 years and older. 

  • Letter of rental arrearage or mortgage arrears with breakdown of the amount owed. 

  • Documentation of increased expenses or decreased income. 

  • A copy of the lease or mortgage. 

  • All items must also be signed by all household members 18 years and older.

Massachusetts Homeless Youth Handbook

Program for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH): A digital know-your-rights guide designed for homeless youth in MA. The Handbook includes over 20 chapters, answering questions on topics such as immigration, the LGBTQ+ community, and getting an ID.
